The Santa Barbara International Film Festival continues to be one of the most inspiring and impactful events in our community. Each year, it brings together storytellers, artists, and audiences from around the world, transforming Santa Barbara into a global stage for creativity and conversation.
This year’s festival was especially memorable. From powerful tributes to unforgettable screenings, the energy throughout the city was extraordinary. It was exciting to see celebrated talent such as Leonardo DiCaprio in attendance, along with the opportunity to connect and take a photo with the incredibly talented Teyana Taylor. Moments like these remind us of the caliber of artistry the festival attracts.
Yet beyond the red carpet, what truly sets this festival apart is its lasting impact on our community.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is not only an outstanding celebration of great talent, it is also a meaningful economic driver for our region. In past years, the festival has contributed approximately 34 million dollars in revenue to the City of Santa Barbara during its ten day run, supporting local hotels, restaurants, and small businesses.
For many in our hospitality and service industries, those ten days represent a significant boost that carries momentum well beyond the festival itself. It is a powerful example of how arts and culture strengthen the local economy.
A major milestone this year was the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Santa Barbara Film Center on February 2. This moment marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the organization.
The Film Center now serves as a permanent home for screenings, educational programming, filmmaker discussions, and community events throughout the year. It is more than a venue. It is a gathering place dedicated to storytelling, learning, and connection.
To witness the ribbon cutting and celebrate this achievement alongside fellow supporters was truly special. The vision for a year round space dedicated to film and education has become a reality, and its impact will be felt for generations.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is its deep commitment to education and the next generation of storytellers. The organization’s impact extends far beyond the screenings and tributes, with year round initiatives designed to introduce students to the art and craft of filmmaking.
A particularly meaningful program is Mike’s Field Trip to the Movies, which takes place during the film festival and brings approximately 4,000 low to moderate income students to experience film in a theater setting. For many of these students, it is their first opportunity to attend a festival event and experience the power of cinema in a shared environment.
In addition to this program, the festival supports a variety of educational initiatives that help cultivate young talent and provide access to the film industry. Programs such as 10-10-10, Film Camp, and student internships, to name a few, offer hands on opportunities for students to learn from professionals and explore careers in storytelling, filmmaking, and media.
These initiatives reflect the festival’s broader mission. It is not only about celebrating film today, but also about inspiring and supporting the filmmakers and creative voices of tomorrow.
Santa Barbara has given so much to my family, my clients, and my career. In recognition of that, I am proud to share that 20 percent of my 2026 real estate commission will be dedicated to supporting the Film Center.
Real estate is about more than transactions. It is about community, legacy, and the institutions that shape our shared experience. The Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the new Film Center embody those values.
From world renowned talent to local students experiencing cinema for the first time, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival reflects the very best of our city. It is an outstanding festival with remarkable talent, and its cultural and economic contributions continue to elevate Santa Barbara on a global stage.
I am honored to be involved and grateful to support an organization that celebrates creativity while strengthening our community.
If you would like to learn more about the Film Center or ways to get involved, I would be happy to connect.
