Some causes stay with you long after an event ends.
For me, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is one of those causes.
Over the past several years, I have had the privilege of supporting the Alzheimer’s Association in a variety of leadership roles, from serving as Honorary Co-Chair to helping raise awareness and support for one of the most important health challenges facing families today. Most recently, I was honored to be named Executive Co-Chair for the 2026 Santa Barbara Walk to End Alzheimer’s alongside Dr. Justin Lahood.
While titles and responsibilities may change from year to year, the mission remains the same: to support those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, care for their families, and help advance the research that brings us closer to effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Alzheimer’s affects far more than the individual diagnosed. It touches spouses, children, grandchildren, friends, caregivers, and entire communities.
Many families understand firsthand the emotional and practical challenges that come with navigating a diagnosis. The need for support, education, and resources continues to grow as more Americans are affected by Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
That is why organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association play such a critical role. Through research funding, support groups, educational programs, and a 24/7 helpline, they provide resources that help families navigate difficult circumstances with guidance and hope.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the largest fundraiser in the world dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Each year, communities across the country come together with a shared purpose: to create a future without this disease.
Here in Santa Barbara, the Walk has become a powerful example of what can happen when people unite around a common cause. Participants walk not only to raise funds, but also to honor loved ones, celebrate caregivers, and demonstrate that no one facing Alzheimer’s is alone.
One of the most meaningful traditions of the event is the Promise Garden ceremony, where participants carry flowers representing their personal connection to the cause. It is a powerful visual reminder of the many lives touched by Alzheimer’s and the collective determination to change the future.
One of the things I love most about Santa Barbara is the way people show up for one another.
Whether supporting local nonprofits, volunteering time, or participating in community events, this city has a remarkable culture of generosity. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s reflects that spirit perfectly.
I have been fortunate to serve alongside dedicated volunteers, healthcare professionals, business leaders, caregivers, and advocates who all share a commitment to making a difference. Their passion and dedication continue to inspire me.
As we prepare for the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I am excited about the opportunity to build upon the momentum of previous years and further expand awareness and support throughout our community.
Progress happens because people choose to get involved. Whether through walking, volunteering, sponsoring, fundraising, or making a donation, every contribution helps move the mission forward.
Together, we can continue supporting families, advancing research, and working toward a future where Alzheimer’s no longer impacts the people we love.
